Understanding Tinnitus by Pat Morrison (Tinnitus UK)

Patrick Morrison is the Senior Tinnitus Support Officer at Tinnitus UK. In this role, he plays a key part in evaluating and developing the charity’s support services.

Today, Patrick explains what tinnitus is, how it can affect people, and the approaches that can help manage it in everyday life.

He shares practical information, describes some common experiences people report, and highlights strategies that many find helpful.

After a short introduction to the work of Tinnitus UK, Patrick’s presentation becomes a lively question-and-answer session with the audience, covering topics such as:

  • Can tinnitus cause dizziness or problems with balance?
  • How can I find support to help me cope with tinnitus?
  • Does tinnitus affect children?
  • Are there any drugs that can help?
  • What research is currently taking place into technologies that might reduce the effects of tinnitus?

Navigating Deafness in a Hearing World by Trish Greenwood

Rotarian Trish Greenwood started to lose her hearing at the age of 27 and struggled to find acceptance of her disability in the hearing world that she had always known. Determined to adapt, she wore hearing aids and learned BSL.

When she became profoundly deaf, she had a cochlear implant, but to her surprise, she discovered she was not accepted in a Deaf world either. So where does she belong?  Watch here to discover more.

An Extraordinary Journey from Silence to Sound by Sue Pietersen

When her son, Hughan, was diagnosed profoundly deaf in 1989, information and support were almost impossible to find. Sue’s talk shares a remarkable journey shaped by determination, chance encounters and belief — showing how small daily efforts can change a life. Sue founded Speech for Deaf Children and continues to champion, support and inspire parents of deaf children worldwide.
